Fears And Greed: Today's Politics - 6 Examples

Many of us, have witnessed and observed, it seems, our politicians and elected officials, often, focus on their personal self - interest, and agenda, rather than serving the best interests of those, they were elected to serve and represent! While there may be individual exceptions and differences, many of these individuals appear to predominantly, be motivated and influenced, by their fears and/ or greed. It appears their fear is based upon, either, their desire to be elected and/ or reelected, or prioritizing politics, and political considerations, over the best interests of the public! Another concerning issue, is the influences, created, by how expensive, it is, to run for political office, and, it often appears, as much, or more time, is spent, as in actually, serving the needs of those, they were elected, to represent! It is indeed, this combination of fears and greed, which seem to dominate our political system, and limit how well, the American public, is served and represented. This article will briefly examine, review and discuss, 6 examples.

1. Follow the money: If our officials, supposedly represent us, how come, even when there are issues, which every poll, clearly indicates, is favored, by a large margin, nothing, of significance, is accomplished and/ or achieved? We have witnessed this, when it comes to creating a quality health - care system, as well as a sane gun policy, but, rarely, does anything, of consequence, get achieved!

2. Gun manufacturers; NRA: It's hard to believe, it's been approximately 19 years, since the tragedy, in Columbine. Shootings in various schools, as well as the recent incidents in Florida and elsewhere, as well as the mass shootings in Las Vegas, have still, brought about no results, even though, polls show approximately 70% of the public, believe gun control/ safety laws, and enforcement are needed. One must wonder if the financial support, as well as lobbying, by the N.R.A., are the main reasons, because the politicians, who have taken their contributions, fear opposing them, and are greedy enough, to prioritize their financial support, to doing the right thing!

3. Pharmaceutical companies: Why are the drug prices, in the United States, so much higher, than, most of the rest of the free world? Rather than creating and developing fair, sane policies, our politicians, have continued to avoid addressing the possibilities, and viable solutions!

4. Insurance companies/ health - care: Our representatives have played the blaming and complaining, game, rather than addressing the health needs, of our citizens. Why does America, not, have, the best health care, when we spend the most money? Rather than fixing the flaws of the Affordable Care Act, the President, Donald Trump, and his cronies, have appeared to do, all they can, to destroy it, and try to replace it, with an even worse program!

5. The electorate: Don't simply blame the politicians, but, rather, realize, it is the electorate, who has, continuously, been fooled, by the rhetoric and promises, of candidates! Is this based on our personal fears, biases/ prejudgments, or apathy?

6. Afraid to take a moral stand!: What has happened to morality, ethics and doing the right thing? For whatever reason, whether due to the high cost of holding office, temptations, fears (of losing power and/ or office), etc, now, more than ever, we need, politicians, who are ready, willing and able, to best serve us!

We live in a world of challenges and potential threats, but, rather than running away from these concerning issues, we need, to elect individuals, who will stand up, and become true leaders! Unfortunately, it's far too rare, in today's political environmental, to see, politicians transform to becoming statesmen, after they are elected!

Too Much Of Politics Over Policy: 5 Considerations

Is the American system of governing, and political system, wounded, destroyed, weakened, or, merely, undergoing a period, of extreme distress? Those, who have followed politics, and the national news, for decades, realize and recognize, there is widespread apathy, within our electorate, which probably, largely explains, our relatively, low, voter turnout! In addition, many, who vote, do so, based on the empty promises, and rhetoric of political candidates, as well as their perceptions, personal biases, and prejudice, and, rather than hopes and aspirations, focus on self - interest! Unfortunately, we often, witness, far too much emphasis on partisan politics, over, quality policy, and the needs of the American people. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly review, examine, and consider, using the mnemonic approach, many of these concerns, and considerations. 1. Political/ personal agenda: Who should, versus, who do, elected officials, actually serve, and represent? T...

Political Blogs - How to Write Them Effectively

For years you've probably been hearing about blogs, bloggers, the blogosphere, and all things "bloggy". When most people hear the term blog they might think of some geek in their underwear writing unimportant and pointless stuff for other geeks to read. While many blogs might be like this, political blogs are of a different class. Political blogs can be very informative, enlightening, and funny. If you like politics and think you have what it takes to write a blog on politics, you came to the right place. I'm going to share a few tips with you on how to write a great political blog. Even if you don't know how to write like a journalist it doesn't matter -all you need is passion (and a little knowledge). If you don't have strong political opinions then let me stop you right there and suggest you pick a different topic than politics. In order to write a great blog on politics you have to have politics on the brain, meaning, you have to be a politic...

Political Correctness and Bigotry

The word "bigot" gets thrown around all the time in politics, and in many cases it is wrongly placed. I got accused of being a bigot when I suggested that peaceful Muslim-Americans should report those Muslim-Americans who intend terrorist action. This is not bigotry, it is reason. The Muslim-American communities are tight-knit, and people there are in a position to know who is planning what action. So getting them to report the terrorists is simple common sense. I, for one, am as far from being a bigot as anyone can be. Many of my best friends are black or Hindu, and I am myself a Russian-Jewish immigrant. If I can be accused of being a bigot, then what hope is there for anyone else? Cultures differ, and practices in them differ. If something exists at a higher rate of chance, then there are going to be reasons for it, even if those are not the reasons that you expect. Most stereotypes have their roots in reality, even when those roots differ from one's expectat...
