5 Keys To An Effective, Electable, Progressive, Political Platform

Regardless of one's political beliefs, and or agenda/ priorities, in recent years, it should be agreed, the Republicans, have more effectively identified and communicated their priorities, goals, and agenda, to attract their base of supporters, than the Democrats have! The more, so - called, conservative platform, has always articulated a people - oriented approach, and stated, their approach, would do, what's most needed, necessary, and a priority. On the other hand, the more progressive agenda, has failed to resonate, sufficiently, to achieve, significant electoral victories. Historically, most Americans have identified with a more - centrist, approach, and until, quite recently, we have always elected Presidents, who fell within, about 5% of the middle, either to the left, or right. For those who disagree with President Trump, and his political priorities, they will achieve little, unless the Democratic Party, creates and introduces, significant reasons, to garner support. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly introduce, review and discuss, 5 keys, for this progressive agenda, and how to ensure they address perceptions, priorities, etc, while still making their candidates, electable.

1. Constitutional rights, liberties, freedoms: Become the party of the people, which will protect the American Constitution, and those rights, liberties and freedoms, we have previously, taken for granted. The focus should be on the positive, and what will be done, rather than, merely, becoming the anti - Trump party. Control the discussion!

2. Jobs/ employment, and better paying jobs: Since unemployment is down, and economic figures, generally, are good, although this may not be, because of the actions, taken since 2017, the emphasis should be, on the quality of the jobs, pay, and whether, they can afford, what they seek.

3. A fairer, tax - system: While the Republicans will try to make the tax legislation, passed in 2017, appear to be a positive, it is essential to focus on who, truly benefits, and, how, so - called, Trickle - Down Economics, never has benefited, most of the people. Show how most of the corporate benefits have benefited the corporations, and the wealthiest, but has done little, in terms of economic benefits, to employees, or most of the middle class. Of course, in states with higher state, and local taxes, known as high - SALT regions, this should be mentioned and emphasized, also!

4. Civil, LGBT, Women's Rights: Avoid making the discussion about abortion, but frame it, regarding women's rights, and controlling their own bodies, as well as clearly emphasizing, eliminating, Roe v Wade, won't eliminate abortion, but simply, safely, doing so! Make the discussion about choice, not about wanting abortions! Discuss "gay rights" and civil rights, from the perspective of freedoms and liberties, for all, not only for things, we might prefer or benefit from.

5. Consumer protections: Emphasize the present administration's weakening of consumer protections, to the apparent benefit of the business community. Remind the population, and electorate, of this folly, by pointing out, what happened in the mid - 2000's, when the need for many consumer protections, became apparent.

A Comparison of Canadian and American Political Systems

People outside of the "Americas" can often get confused understanding and comparing the differences between the US and Canadian models, forms and structures of government. In the United States there are 50 states with a federal government. The subunit, that is each state, has its own governor and state legislature. The federal government of course of the USA, has at its head the President (currently President Obama) along with 2 houses of legislature. These are the US House of Representatives (with local elected members referred to as "Congressmen" or perhaps "Congress Women" and the US Senate with "Senators" elected from each and every state. There are many more Congress people per state than elected Senators over all. Some will tell you that Senators carry much more power and clout than the Congressmen in the House of Representatives, whereas in Canada it's not the Canadian Senate and Senators who wield the greatest power and effect c...

Africa Youth Are Disillusioned With Politics

Far more than half the continent of Africa consists of young people under the age of thirty. They are seen everywhere: in the fields working, sitting on school benches, and on the urban streets and football pitches, but very few are actively involved in mainstream politics in Africa. Oh yes, Africa's youths have been used in politics. The youth wingers recruited by political candidates and administrations are often the muscle behind intimidation during political campaigns. They incite skirmishes with the opposition or handout t-shirts, cash, and other incentives to prospective voters. But, when the election dust settles they are left out of the political process. One could never talk about politics in Africa without talking about the manner in which African youths are kidnapped (don't confuse this with recruitment) by revolutionaries and rebels. They are carried away to become child soldiers that have carried out the most horrendous acts that adult rebels shy away fro...
